Probation Day – Special screening

This past May, we had the joy of attending the screening of Probation Day at Slachtstraat Filmtheater, part of the special premiere series curated by ACLI Utrecht within their Cineforum Italia program. It was the final appointment of the season, and it left us with full hearts and renewed energy.

The short film, born from an idea by Vincenzo Toscani and written by Natalino Bucci, who also stars in it, was directed by Toscani and produced here in the Netherlands by a passionate and international team. Several of its creators are part of IPN Cultura, which made the evening feel not just like a screening, but like a gathering of friends, collaborators, and fellow storytellers.

The screening was followed by a lively and insightful conversation, enriched by the presence of several members of the creative team. Alongside Toscani and Bucci, we were joined by composer Angelo Lupo, sound engineer Carlo Micali, VFX artist and executive producer Sergio Russo, and executive producers Claudia Cesaroni, Marianna Giacomel, and Angelo Sfriso. Their reflections offered an intimate look into the collaborative energy that shaped the film and reflect the kind of cross-cultural creativity we believe in.

We were also honored by the presence of filmmaker Stefano Di Pietro, whose socially-driven documentaries brought depth to the dialogue, and by acclaimed composer Alessio Miraglia, whose generous insights enriched the post-screening exchange even further.

Though not present at the screening, we’d also like to acknowledge the talented cast members Matteo Pasquini, John Hellenberg, and Cristina Stamate, who, together with Bucci, brought Probation Day to life on screen with sensitivity and strength.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Chiara Massidda, Roberto Paletta, and the entire team at ACLI Utrecht for creating such a meaningful space for independent cinema through the Cineforum Italia series. We are equally grateful to Slachtstraat Filmtheater for graciously hosting the event and providing a welcoming venue that truly enhanced the experience. Cineforum Italia continues to be a remarkable platform to meet, reflect, and exchange through film, and we feel deeply honored to have been part of it.

To everyone who filled the theatre with attention, curiosity, and warmth, thank you. Your presence made the evening what it was: a reminder that stories come alive not only when they’re told, but when they’re shared.

Probation Day has now begun its journey through the film festival circuit and is officially selected for the Sweden Film Awards. We’ll keep you updated on the next steps and future recognitions.
